At Occasional Events NE Ltd – Photo Booth & Events Hire North East – we’ve grown over the last two years. We have learned and adapted rapidly. We’ve met loads of new people and been introduced to the business world of networking. These experiences have given us amazing ideas for the future….
In 2015 Laura and I, Co-Founders and Directors of Occasional Events, took the next step in our relationship. We got engaged!
It was an exciting time. Looking at Venues, dresses, cars and more. It was a new world to us.
Suddenly we were thrown into the realm of Wedding Fayres – don’t worry – that blog will come soon enough. Oh My, it was a mind field. An endless number of suppliers trying to convince you that you need them to complete your big day.
It wasn’t all that bad and scary though, it gave us great insight and sparked amazing conversations about what we did actually want.
The ‘Must Haves’!
Everything was considered and broken down into a short-list and, eventually, the finalists. These select few items were exactly what we needed to complete our long-planned Wedding Day. We say long-planned…we gave ourselves roughly 2 years and they came around very quickly!
One of the ‘Must Haves’ was a Photo Booth. Between us, we had only encountered a Photo Booth once or twice and only at family events.
We began making a point of talking to Photo Booth providers at Wedding Fayres. At the time, there was only a couple of suppliers in the whole of the North East. We kept seeing the same companies. The strange thing was, we were getting quotes on the spot ranging from £450 – £600 for 3 hours hire.
Often they would ‘offer us a deal’ on light-up letters too. Another ‘Must Have’. Only £300 extra!
We didn’t get it. We’re sure most of you feel the same!?
Let’s get our own!
We began investigations into how much our own Photo Booth would cost and if the business model was viable.
We thought it was and took the leap and before we knew it, Occasional Events NE Ltd. was born!

After experiencing the supply world from both sides and seeing how much prices can fluctuate, we decided that Occasional Events would be one price for all events. If you mention the ‘W-Word’ to us (Wedding) then you’ll pay exactly the same as someone who wants to book us for a Birthday Party! Find our packages here!
Anyone who tells you starting networking is easy is lying. It becomes easy, the same as anything else but to begin with it is extremely awkward.
With Jan & Feb being so quiet, some of our business friends suggested we try networking. We were invited along as guests. Being a guest is great, if the person inviting you comes along too, which ours did.
Then you spend an hour or two meeting so many people trying to tell them your story, and them trying to tell you yours, in minutes. The first couple of people you meet probably think you’ve lost the plot as you try to structure the jumble of words falling out your mouth.
Suddenly, though, it clicks and you realise that networking is, in fact, amazing. We attend regular networking events now.
Growth & More Ideas
Suddenly, all the hard work began to pay off. We met other suppliers and learned the benefit of collaborations.
Light-up letters became ever more popular. So we thought, lets build our own, with a twist!
Some of the other Booth companies began to drop off the radar.
Occasional Events became a full-time profession for us!
Lanchester Wedding Cars Added to the Fold
Following our amazing Wedding Day in June 2017, we decided to diversify a little. In a joint venture with Darren’s parents, we launched Lanchester Wedding Cars. We have a fleet of 6 cars to date. Feel free to pay Lanchester Wedding Cars a visit here after you finish reading.
With the Wedding Cars came re-branding and new websites. A whole, new, softer feel and marketing approach was born.
2018 and the Future
We haven’t stopped there. We’ve been growing our list of contacts to help you have the best event possible. Our main focus is that everyone on our list is reliable and quality.
